If you’re touring Mamaroneck NY homes for sale and have children at home, please take time to tour our schools too.

According to an April 10 article written by Chaya Babu and published in DailyVoice.com the award is given to all states in the U.S. and provinces in Canada. States are grouped into sections, and Wing won the New York State Eastern Section Award for 2013.

Teachers are judged on the following qualities:

  •        teaching ability
  •        initiative
  •        strengths
  •        community involvement
  •        student relationships

Wing stood out in this competition due to his work with what has become known as the “One-to-One iPad Program. Wing and his colleagues and developed lessons that require students to use iPads in class. The lessons are designed to stimulate inventiveness, curiosity and creativity with cutting-edge technology.

According to Babu’s article, “Wing has also developed a YouTube library of earth science curriculum that took him nearly 1,000 hours to make and compile. The videos have received more than 330,000 hits from students.”

Wing also reportedly coordinates an after school program targeting underprivileged students who need extra support and assistance.

Hommocks Middle School is located within the Mamaroneck Union Free School District. The district employs 405 teachers. Of those teachers 60 percent have earned a master’s degree plus 30 hours or doctorate education. Mamaroneck School District enjoys a 93 percent graduation. New Rochelle NY Homes for Sale: County Fosters Summer Jobs Initiative

New Rochelle NY homes for sale are located in a city that’s working hard to teach youth about the amazing professional opportunities for them right here. Westchester County and the Business Council of Westchester have teamed up on a private sector summer jobs initiative, to match youths with businesses looking to find an intern for the summer or beyond. The Westchester-Putnam Investment Board has helped make this program a major success.

The Summer Jobs Initiative is in its fourth year. This year businesses are being asked to hire at least one young adult, 18 to 24 years old for six to eight weeks.

In a Feb. 22 Westchester County press release, Business Council Chief Executive Officer and President Marsha Gordon is quoted, “It is our responsibility to stop the flight of youth from Westchester by creating an environment where it is attractive for young people to grow their careers and their personal lives.”

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino urged corporations to join businesses and service partners already helping with the initiative, “A lot of our energy needs to be devoted to selling our youth on the benefits of working in Westchester County,” he said.

Many homebuyers shopping for New Rochelle single-family homes, condos, townhouses and estates want reassurance their families’ youth will be able to find work in the lower Hudson Valley.

Initiative Marked with Success

The Private Sector Summer Jobs Initiative was first instituted in 2010. Since then the program has placed 370 youth through more than 55 businesses. The program’s goal this year is to place 200 youths in summer jobs and to increase business participation. Businesses pay all salaries and there are no public subsidies involved in the program. In some cases, participating businesses qualify for tax incentives.

Get Involved

Businesses interested in participating in this initiative may contact Ebony White at The Business Council of Westchester at (914) 948-2110 or list a summer job at www.westchestersummerjobs.com.

Youth can enroll in this program by calling the youth agency in and/or nearest their community: City of Peekskill Youth Bureau; City of Mount Vernon Youth Bureau; SER of Westchester; City of White Plains Youth Bureau; and the Westchester Community Opportunity Program, Inc.

Kudos for This Initiative

Prudential Centennial Realty offers kudos to the organizers of this program that can only benefit the youth of our communities. Participating businesses also benefit from the ability to identify and recruit young talent very early in the game.

Eastchester NY homes for sale are surrounded by angels – Snow Angels! Spring is on its way, but it’s not here yet and there’s still plenty of snow to make life difficult for the elderly and afflicted. Did you know a special program for residents of Tuckahoe and parts of Eastchester provides help with snow removal?

The Snow Angel program was originally introduced by County Legislator Sheila Marcotte (R-Tuckahoe). Volunteer youth are matched up with people who need help removing snow from their property. Need help? Request an Angel and the program will do the rest. Snow Angels will clear steps of Eastchester NY homes and Tuckahoe NY homes along with front walkways and sidewalks free of charge.

The program is intended to help people who would otherwise be snowbound get out of their houses in the event of an emergency. The snow removal program also provides emergency services easier access to homes when needed.

If you’re interested in becoming a community volunteer, or if you need a Snow Angel of your own, contact Marcotte by email at tuckahoesnowangels@yahoo.com
